Carrin Swanson
started working as a receptionist at a nursing
home when she was just fifteen years old. That
job as a teenager turned into a life long
devotion to serving senior citizens and people
with disabilities. Today Carrin is the Program
Manager at Dayhaven, an adult day care program
of Catholic Charities Senior Services located in
Schenectady, serving forty adults with physical
or cognitive impairments, like Gracie Atwell
shown in the photo on the right.
Many of the
guests served at Dayhaven suffer from
Alzheimer’s disease. The youngest guest is 52
and the oldest is 101. At Dayhaven, guests have
an opportunity to socialize with peers and share
in stimulating activities. Every aspect of a
guest’s comfort and health is supervised by
Carrin and her staff of professionals. Care,
compassion and love are much in evidence at
Dayhaven which has no age or geographic
requirements.
Dayhaven
gives family caregivers peace of mind. Husbands,
wives and children have a safe and welcoming
home-like alternative to placing loved ones in a
nursing home.
Carrin leaves
her guests at the end of every day knowing that
she and her colleagues have made a difference in
the lives of others. The rewards of her job are
the smiles on the faces of her guests and their
caregivers.
